Health & Safety
Keeping our campers safe and sound is our number one focus. As a proud member of the American Camp Association, Camp Birchwood adheres to over 400 stringent operating standards. These are based on industry requirements, state regulations, and national laws. These “best practices” insure that we operate at the highest level of safety in all aspects of our business. Many of our standards exceed the ACA’s requirements.
General Illness Policy
Our goal is to minimize risk, while providing a safe place to have the most fun at Camp. We take the latest research and conclusive data from multiple State, Federal, and Academic sources into account as we develop our policy, so your daughter can live her best Camp Life. Our policies are dynamic and may change from year to year depending on the prevalence and emergence of various illness. Please call if you’d like to discuss this further.
Text Message Policy
For parents who opt-in for texting to camp or through CampinTouch app: no mobile phone information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Safety First
Each and every Birchwood counselor is trained to abide by the ACA standards set forth for each activity. These standards include everything from wearing helmets while horseback riding to making sure that lifejackets are worn properly during water activities.
Counselors hold current certifications in First Aid and CPR, with additional certifications in Wilderness First Aid for those who take trips out of camp. Birchwood lifeguards are trained prior to camp to adhere to current Red Cross guidelines.
A registered nurse or medical doctor is in camp to respond to everything from common ailments to unexpected emergencies.
A health care manager is in place all summer to help manage medication dispensing and the overall wellness of campers.
Emergency ambulance response time is within 10 minutes, and a regional hospital is located less than 30 minutes away in nearby Bemidji.
For additional information on our health and safety standards, we welcome you to call us at the camp office.
